Capric acid, also known as capric acid, is a by-product of lauric acid from lauric oil, coconut oil or litbeba oil. It is mainly used to produce capric acid esters, which are used as spices, wetting agents, plasticizers and food additives. White, smelly crystals. Insoluble in water, soluble in dilute nitric acid and most organic solvents.
White crystals. Having an unpleasant smell. Melting point31.5℃, Boiling point 270℃, 148-150℃ (1.46kPa), relative density 0.8858 (20/4℃), refractive index 1.4169 (40℃), vapor pressure 13 Pa (79 °C). Actually insoluble in water (0.015g/100g at 20℃), soluble in alcohol, ether, benzene, chloroform and carbon disulfide, but also soluble in dilute nitric acid.
It is mainly used for making decanoate esters, which are used as spices, wetting agents, plasticizers and food additives. Should be sealed in a cool and dry place.
This substance can irritate eyes and skin. Wear appropriate gloves and goggles or mask when using. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice
